Mission Statement:
"To Provide Products and Services That Make The World A Cleaner and Better Place to Live"

"Serving the world's energy needs since 1898"

From the dark recesses of an Amazon rain forest to the control room of a state-of-the-art electric generating plant, you'll find Detroit combustion technology wherever mankind must convert fuel into clean, dependable power. Our company was founded in the late 19th century with the development of the first mechanical stoker, a device that made the use of finely-divided, slack coal feasible. Until that time, slack coal had been discarded as unusable.

These early Detroit stokers also vastly improved the efficiency of coal-fired plants of the day by making it possible for a single man to manage as much steam generating capacity as five men stoking a hand-fired plant.

Today, Detroit Stoker Company is a leading supplier of stokers and related combustion equipment for the production of steam used in heating, industrial processing and electric power generation around the world. In addition to providing dependable power, Detroit has taken a leadership role in the development of environmentally responsible systems that make power generating plants good neighbors in their communities.

Detroit has also led the way in unlocking the value of renewable energy sources. Recycling and reduction of industrial and municipal solid waste as renewable fuels are both cost-effective and environmentally-friendly. Every day, more than 125,000 tons of biomass and refuse are burned on Detroit stokers, the largest of which produces more than 100 MWe.

Detroit combustion systems around the world generate power from such diverse waste products as bark, sugar cane, sawdust, sunflower hulls and poultry litter. These otherwise non-recyclable materials produce insignificant levels of acid gas compared to the fossil fuels they replace and are considered CO2-neutral because the carbon dioxide produced is used in the growth cycle of renewable fuel sources. As the costs of conventional fuels rise, renewable fuels provide a sensible alternative.
