Detroit Stoker Company is currently seeking a Buyer.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree with 3 years’ experience in purchasing
  • Additional consideration given for experience with castings
  • CPM/CPSM given additional consideration
  • Must maintain a valid driver license and passport
  • Ability to complete domestic and international travel 0-20%

Position Requirements:

  • Performs buying assignments, including the purchasing of castings, while maintaining the needs of quality and required specifications, price and delivery time
  • Advises other departments of lead times and changes affecting standard materials purchased and recommends changes as necessary
  • Collaborate with other departments regarding designs and quality issues that may provide better casting materials and procurement opportunities
  • Travels to vendor plants to analyze capabilities
  • Negotiates with vendor on price per guidelines, quality and delivery issues, protecting the interests of DSC as well as the vendor relationship
  • Coordinate the tracking process of international shipments of castings, maintaining oversight from the vendor’s dispatch point to our facility. Addressing potential delays and ensuring compliance with logistic requirement
  • Ensure optimal casting inventory levels by tracking material usage to support production needs while minimizing excess stock
  • Maintains accurate current and forecasted source data within ERP system
  • Maintains accurate pattern inventory records
  • Proficiency in ASTM specifications, AWS standards and testing of steels and gray, ductile, and high alloy irons
  • Responsible for the review and approval vendor chemical and metallographic reports including completing in-house audits/inspections
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidate must be highly competent in the following area:

  • Manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical information
  • Good knowledge of casting material
  • Analytical thinking
  • Strong written and oral communication, including skills in negotiating
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook and the Internet
  • ERP experience
  • Planning and organizing; deadline orientated
  • Assertive and resourceful in researching best prices
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and ethical decision making
  • Knowledge of advantages and limitations of casting processes
  • Ability to review pattern equipment and verify core box compatibility preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in supply chain management
  • Strong global sourcing knowledge and experience
