Senior Burner Technician
Detroit Stoker Company is currently seeking a Senior Burner Technician.
Requirements:
- 8+ years electrical & controls expertise with emphasis on field troubleshooting
- 5+ Experience commissioning and tuning industrial combustion systems for efficiency, stability, and emissions performance across varying fuels and operating conditions
- Extensive domestic travel, up to 100%
- Potential international travel, up to 10%
- Must maintain a valid driver license and passport
Position Requirements:
- Troubleshoot, commission, tune, and optimize industrial burner, boiler, furnace, and dryer systems, including integration with PLC-based controls, HMIs, fuel trains, flame safeguards, actuators, and instrumentation
- Perform advanced root cause troubleshooting on industrial electrical and control systems (24VDC through 460VAC), including control circuits, motor starters, VFDs, interlocks, flame safeguard systems, and associated components
- Configure, diagnose, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley and/or Automation Direct), including system integration and operational support
- Install, maintain, and calibrate electrical and process instrumentation to ensure accurate and reliable system performance
- Work independently in customer facilities, interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings while interfacing professionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel
- Make sound real-time decisions regarding burner operation, tuning strategy, and commissioning sequencing in coordination with customer operations and internal engineering support
- Provide technical leadership, field escalation support, and mentoring to less experienced technicians; may lead multi-technician projects to ensure efficient issue resolution
- Provide on-call technical support, customer training, and detailed written reports summarizing work performed, emissions data, findings, and recommendations
- Collaborate with Sales and Burner Applications Engineering to provide field feedback on system performance and product improvement opportunities
- Execute work in accordance with NFPA 85/86, applicable regulations, and company safety requirements, including safety checks, interlock verification, and startup validation
- Perform work across multiple customer sites in demanding industrial environments, including elevated areas, confined spaces, high temperatures, and outdoor conditions
- Other duties as assigned
Candidate must be highly competent in the following areas:
- Strong technical knowledge
- Problem-solving and adaptability
- PLC programming experience
- Strong communication skills, ability to explain technical issues and corrective actions to both technical and non-technical participants
- Flexibility to meet customer needs
- Supervise/direct others
- Support burner sales group as needed
- Proficient in MS Office and internet tools
- Support stoker business; gain work experience in boiler and stoker operations
- Support companywide communication and collaboration
