Overfire Air Systems

Detroit Stoker Company has been designing overfire air (OFA) and secondary air control systems to complement Detroit® Stokers since 1898. Today, our OFA systems offer reliable and optimal combustion of gases alongside our stokers.

Overfire air control systems were originally designed just to control fuel particulates, but today, they also play a crucial role in the reduction of carbon monoxide (CO) and NOx emissions. OFA systems improve overall combustion efficiency, providing the necessary turbulence to mix these volatile emissions with air for combustion. All of the Detroit® Stokers feature an OFA/secondary control system to reduce emissions and improve overall fuel efficiency.

Features and Benefits of Detroit Stoker Company’s Overfire Air Control Systems

  • As mentioned above, all of our overfire air control systems are designed to fit our patented Detroit® Stokers, but we can configure them to meet a variety of specific needs. Each OFA system can also be individually adjusted.
  • Every overfire air control system features fully-ported stainless steel nozzles for maximum discharge efficiency.
  • Our team will specifically tailor each OFA system according to the customer’s fuel, load, and operating conditions.
  • The nozzles of the system are designed to be located along the front and rear walls of the stoker for maximum coverage and are individually adjustable.
  • Detroit Stoker Company’s overfire air control systems offer more effective control over NOx, CO and fuel particulates.
  • Our design has been tested and proven out in the field again and again, through every improvement and technological innovation.

For emission predictions or guarantees, Detroit Stoker Company also offers engineering studies to review the current operating data, fuel analysis, expected modifications and expected emission target values. This would include data collection and recommendations through a summary report of findings.
