Stoker Modeling

Detroit Stoker Company has been built on a foundation of excellence in everything we do, from the products we manufacture to the services that we provide for our customers. One of the services that we offer in order to provide our clients with the best possible combustion equipment solutions is CFD analysis for stoker modeling.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Stoker Modeling

Isometric views of computational fluid dynamics models.

As part of our engineering and design services, our engineering team creates computerized models through computational fluid dynamics of clients’ industrial furnaces. These models allow us to improve system performance, reduce emissions, and ensure the equipment we send fits perfectly into their existing systems.

Computational Fluid Dynamics or CFD Modeling is a computerized and advanced technique used to estimate flue gas properties within a unit and then model and simulate three-dimensional flow. At Detroit Stoker, we use CFD modeling to estimate flue gas properties within a unit and to assist in determining the design and operation of primary and secondary air systems. This technique helps our team characterize proper emission controls and performance improvements ahead of time, streamlining the manufacturing and installation processes. Once constructed, the stoker modeling can even be further modified to estimate the effects of changes in design and operating conditions.

The Use of CFD Stoker Modeling in a Typical Client Project

Isometric views of computational fluid dynamics models. In a standard project from Detroit Stoker Company, we first model the client’s unit without any design or operating changes.

  • This allows our engineers to determine the baseline temperature, flow behavior, and flue gas conditions are determined

Then, we create a model simulating the new overfire and secondary air injection added to the client’s unit.

  • Our team then adjusts the overfire/secondary and primary air configurations to optimize flow behavior and flue gas conditions within this new model

Now, we can compare the changes between the baseline and the new model, including boiler dimensions, operations data and mass, energy input and output, and other key parameters.

  • All of these results are then sent to the client for evaluation and final approval of the design.
